“I enjoy putting together color, texture, and form to make a statement. In addition to the freedom of expression possible in traditional piecework, beads and fiber extend the possibilities. My current work reflects my interest in global ecology, conservation, and the goddess myths.”

Judy has won numerous awards for her fabric and bead-embellished creations, at quilt shows in Missoula and the Bitterroot, bead contests, and fairs, including Best of Show in Home Arts at the 2006 Ravalli County Fair.

Since 1999, Judy has devoted full time to her artistic passion, providing custom and heirloom-quality machine quilting services to her fellow quilters and producing her own works. Judy became increasingly interested in embellishments and started producing beadwork pieces for competition and sales in 2005. In 2007 she became interested in hand weaving, first on a rigid heddle loom and later on counterbalance and jack looms. In 2008, she began to hand-dye yarns for her projects. She also added a spinning wheel to her studio and is now creating custom hand-spun yarns from various fibers to create truly unique, items, combining spinning, weaving, quilting, felting, and beading. Many of her smaller pieces have included recycled and repurposed fabrics as well as felted fibers.

Judy likes to share her knowledge of and enthusiasm for the techniques and processes she has learned and explores. She has given a number of “trunk shows,” presentations of examples of her work to various organizations, and is available to teach classes in such diverse topics as beginning weaving, flower pounding (decorating fabric with natural plant dyes from your garden), and beading on fabric.
